January Swiss 2026

This past week, the BVCA had its first tournament of 2026 at First Baptist Bryan, right off of Highway 6. We are so grateful to FBC to allow us to have such a nice venue!

It was the first tournament at our brand new location in the beautiful fellowship hall at FBC. All of our future tournaments for the rest of 2026 will be held there. We had a good turnout for this tournament, despite the threat of freezing cold weather! The weather relented and allowed the players to brave the cold weather to arrive at the tournament and thankfully, everyone stayed warm inside and the roads did not get icy until Saturday evening after the tournament had long ended.

Jesse Edge scored 3.5/4.0 points to clinch clear 1st place in the Open section, while Le Khanh Vu won 2nd place with 3.0/4.0. Ben Horlick won 3rd place and with 3.0/4.0 points. Each player also won a substantial cash prize!

Ben was one of the lower seeds, but beat a 1300 on his way to 3rd place, and gained about 200 ratings points in the process.

The games were entertaining, intense, and decisive. We are proud of each of the player’s fighting spirits!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone next month, on February 28th.

For every event, the first three places all win cash prizes! The more players, the larger the cash prize fund. See our Events page and FAQ for details on that.

This was an officially USCF-rated event. See the USCF event page and learn more about each participant and see more details of each game played.
