Bringing Chess to the Brazos Valley - One Move at a Time

The Brazos Valley Chess Association offers comprehensive chess programming designed to meet players where they are—whether you're just learning the basics or competing at the highest levels.

Chess Coaching Personalized instruction tailored to your goals and skill level, available both in-person in the Brazos Valley and online anywhere in the world. Our USCF-certified coaches work with players of all ages, from beginners discovering their first checkmate to competitive players refining their tournament strategy.

Tournament Hosting We organize both USCF-rated tournaments for serious competitors and casual, non-rated events for players who want to test their skills in a friendly environment. Our professionally-run tournaments provide a welcoming atmosphere where players can challenge themselves and connect with the local chess community. We've partnered with the City of Bryan and the Bryan+College Station library system to host tournaments that bring chess to every corner of our community.

Workshops & Group Instruction Perfect for homeschool groups, co-ops, schools, and community organizations, our chess workshops bring the game to your group. We customize curriculum and activities to match your students' ages and experience levels, making chess accessible and exciting for everyone. We've run successful chess clubs for homeschool co-ops and public libraries, and we work closely with the official Texas A&M Chess Club to support collegiate chess in College Station.

Whether you're an individual looking to improve your game or an organization wanting to bring chess to your community, BVCA has a program that fits your needs.

In-Person Chess Coaching

There's something special about learning chess face-to-face - the ability to read the board together, move pieces in real time, and build a genuine mentoring relationship that goes beyond the game.

Our in-person coaching sessions in the Brazos Valley area offer personalized instruction tailored to your specific goals, whether you're a beginner learning fundamental principles or a competitive player preparing for your next tournament. We work with students of all ages, from young children just discovering the game to adults looking to sharpen their skills.

Each session is customized to your current level and learning style. We focus not just on tactical patterns and strategic concepts, but on developing critical thinking skills, patience, and a genuine love for chess that lasts a lifetime. Our coaches bring years of competitive experience and a passion for helping every player reach their full potential.

Flexible scheduling and locations available throughout Bryan-College Station.

Online Chess Coaching

Distance is no barrier to excellent chess instruction. Our online coaching brings the same personalized, high-quality training directly to you—whether you're across town or across the country.

Through video conferencing and interactive chess platforms like Chess.com and Lichess, you'll receive real time instruction that's just as engaging as in-person lessons.

We can analyze your games, work through tactical puzzles together, explore opening repertoires, and develop
strategic plans tailored to your playing style—all from the comfort of your own home.

Online coaching offers unmatched flexibility for busy schedules. No commute time means more time actually learning chess. It's perfect for students who travel frequently, families with packed calendars, or anyone who wants access to expert instruction without geographical limitations.

Our coaches have extensive experience teaching online and know how to create dynamic, interactive lessons that keep you engaged and progressing. We work with players of all ages and skill levels, from beginners taking their first steps to experienced competitors fine-tuning their tournament preparation.
