BVCA June Round Robin

The BVCA held its June tournament on June 20th, 2026 at First Baptist Bryan. Turnout came in at six players, so instead of running a Swiss with an smaller field and only three rounds, we decided to switch to a Round Robin on site — meaning every player faced every other player over five rounds. Smaller field, but more chess.

It was a tight one at the top. Caleb Bryan Castellanos went 4.5/5 to take first outright, with the only thing keeping him from a perfect score a hard-fought draw against Le Khanh Vu — the highest-rated player in the field. Jesse Mcclellan Edge finished right behind at 4.0/5, with his lone loss coming against Caleb. Le Khanh Vu rounded out the podium at 3.5/5. In a Round Robin, every player plays every particpant in the field, so everyone has their shot at winning.

We also want to give a shoutout to Matías C Castillo and Juan Sebastian Gomez-Aguilar, both of whom played in their first USCF-rated tournament!

As always, cash prizes went out to our top three finishers. Thank you to everyone who came out and competed with focus and good sportsmanship, even with the smaller field.

We're grateful to First Baptist Bryan for hosting us again.

We hope to see a bigger turnout (and a return to Swiss pairings!) at our next tournament, on July 11th at FBC Bryan.
